The “Spirit of Matt Bush” scholarship was created to honor the life of a dynamic man who fiercely loved his family, friends and community.
No one loved and lived like Matt Bush. He had a way of filling up the room with his warm and inviting personality and he truly never met a stranger. He had a twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes and made everyonehe met feel seen and valued. With Matt, every new face quickly became a friend. Matt loved with sincerity, loyalty and intensity. His sense of humor and love of adventure were always present, right up until the end of his life.
Matt never missed an opportunity to attend an event at Berlin and he was often the first to volunteer to help out whenever and wherever needed. He made it a point to meet everyone whose path he crossed. Oftentimes, he was the last person to leave an awards ceremony or a football, lacrosse or volleyball game, because he engaged in conversations with everyone he ran into.
The recipient of this award will exhibit these same qualities. The award will be based on their activities, involvement at Berlin, and on the kindness and openness they show toward others, along with an obvious zest for life’s adventures. The recipient may be attending trade school, a two-or four-year college or enrolling in the military. It is intended to show the value of not just grades, athletic ability, or test scores, but rather the way you approach life and treat others.
